Railroad Safety Consultant/Expert Witness. Presently in private practice offering his services to those individuals or groups that need technical expertise, information and assistance with railroad related issues or litigation of railroad accidents, incidents or personal injury cases. Mr. Hinds has a profound knowledge of the Railroad Industry gained through forty plus years of experience working for several railroad companies, railroad labor organizations and law firms representing railroad employees. Utilizing his skills, knowledge, expertise and hands-on experience, he will help his clients interpret all of the evidence and establish the facts necessary to formulate an opinion for presentation to a jury.

 

As a railroad employee, he worked as a non-agreement and agreement employee. He held several management positions including Assistant Trainmaster, Trainmaster, Terminal Trainmaster, Division Trainmaster, Assistant Superintendent and Superintendent. As an agreement employee, he worked several positions including Switchman/Brakeman, Conductor, Retarder Operator, Dispatcher and Yardmaster. He was qualified as a Locomotive Engineer and High-Rail Operator. Serving as a Union Officer, he held several positions including Vice Local Chairman, Division Local Chairman, Vice General Chairman, Legislative Representative and President.


During the course of his career, he investigated over 5,600 train accidents, derailments, collisions, personal injuries and fatalities to determine the cause of and the responsibility for the accident. He can assist clients with issues involving Railroad Operations, Railroad Safety Development, Railroad Operating Rules, Railroad Safety Rules, FRA Rules and Regulations, Railroad Retirement Board Benefits, Discipline Cases, Arbitration, Mediation, Collective Bargaining Agreements and Labor Relations. Mentor and Adviser to numerous Local, General and International Union Officers of all the major Railroad Unions.


Mr. Hinds authored several books, manuals and publications including "Trains, Tracks & Facts", a book discussing the railroad industry and how to deal with their shortcomings He completed a hands-on study of railroad jobs and published a "Railroad Job Analysis" for Train and Engine Service Employees and Non-Operating Employees..
