Senior Consultant – Railroad Track, Bridge and Right of Way. Twenty-four years with the Federal Railroad Administration working as a Railroad Safety Inspector. Mr. Robert Davids was responsible for conducting compliance inspections, accident investigations and complaint investigations in central and northern New England. Mr. Davids was assigned to investigate several major railroad accidents, either as the sole investigator or as the leader (inspector in charge) of a multi-discipline team. As the sole investigator or team leader, Mr. Davids was responsible for analyzing the information gathered and determining the probable causes of the accident. Mr. Davids was the Assistant Manager of the Safety Assurance and Compliance initiative on a regional railroad in Maine and Vermont. This project involved identifying various safety issues, working with labor and railroad representatives on solutions with follow through to see that solutions were implemented. Mr. Davids conducted major compliance investigations on a Class 1 railroad in New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Connecticut as well as commuter railroads in New York.
Railroad Experience: Various positions from Rodman to General Roadmaster.
Years: 15 years from 1963 to 1978 for the Delaware and Hudson Railroad.
Mr. Davids began in the engineering corps of the railroad and was promoted to supervisory in 1967. Mr. Davids was responsible for supervising and overseeing maintenance of large areas of the railroad. His duties included supervising track improvements on the Champlain Division to allow Amtrak service to Montreal at speeds up to 79 mph. As General Roadmaster, Mr. Davids managed over 200 employees engaged in track improvements and maintenance.
Other Significant Accomplishments:
· Has conducted training sessions in Federal Track Safety Standards as well as Railroad Workplace Safety for railroad and State DOT employees in Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and New York.
· Devised and installed a system for monitoring the lateral stability continuous welded rail on a state-owned rail line in Maine.
· Represented FRA during the track and bridge rehabilitation project to allow Amtrak service from Boston to Portland, Maine.
· Member of American Railway Engineering and Maintenance of Way Association (formerly AREA) since 1972. Life membership since 2002.
