While Supervisor of Product Litigation and Safety at EMD, he was the engineer responsible for the analyses of the safety performance of EMD products and the resolution of product safety-related concerns. Included were analyses of collision resistance capability, braking system performance, audible and visual warning conspicuity, step and ladder design, cab seat design, machine guarding systems, and oil drill rig control systems. Accident reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, human factors considerations (both behavioral and physiological), and systems analysis including systems safety analysis were fundamental to the execution of these analyses in addition to the more conventional aspects of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering.
