Included were analyses of collision resistance capability, braking system performance, audible and visual warning conspicuity, step and ladder design, cab seat design, machine guarding systems, and oil drill rig control systems. Accident reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, human factors considerations (both behavioral and physiological), and systems analysis including systems safety analysis were fundamental to the execution of these analyses in addition to the more conventional aspects of mechanical, electrical, and structural engineering.

· Developed the "Super Draining Tank Car" with liquid retention of 8 oz. or less.

· Project Manager for the specification, acquisition, construction, inspection and delivery of over 2000 tank cars including 400 tank cars to meet 286,000 lb. Gross Rail Load requirements.

 

Since starting BOLDS & Associates, LLC in 2001, Mr. Bolds has consulted with major chemical companies to eliminate Non-Accident Releases (NAR) from tank cars, establish Quality Assurance Programs, and comply with Federal HazMat Regulations and AAR Tank Car Standards and Recommended Practices. During this time, he has consulted and acted as Expert Witness in tank car accident and accidental loss of lading cases. In 2005, BOLDS & Associates, LLC became associated with PVB Consulting Inc.

 

For the past 20 years, he has been an active participant in the Association of American Railroad’s Tank Car Sub-Committees and has served as Chairman on numerous Task Forces.
